The Cage Sandal, Manolo Blahnik Style

Manolo says, normally when one thinks of the cage sandal, one of the shoe trends which has recently swept the field, one thinks of the aggressively urban, Queen Boadicea, lady-warrior-straps-on-her-leather-armor type of shoe, in black or dark brown.

Not our beloved Maestro Manolo Blahnik. For the man of such delicate and whimsical sensibilities, when he hears the words “cage sandal”, he thinks of birds, and of making the dainty bronze containers for your tiny parakeet toes.

Or else, he uses brilliant blue satin to swaddle your lower extremities in Bird of Paradise color!

Ayyy! Such beautiful shoes!

Manolo Blahnik Spring/Summer 2010 Collection

The story of Manolo Blahnik began in 1973 when he created his first collection for Ossie Clark – one of the most famous fashion designers in Britain.

Soon after that, Manolo became famous and opened his own shoe shop in the heart of London, which exists to this day and almost 40 years attracts thousands and thousands of admirers of the great shoe “wizard”.
Manolo Blahnik shoes became every woman’s dream. These shoes are very popular with celebrities and fashion icons, for instance, Kylie Minogue, Naomi Campbell, Winona Ryder, Madonna, and of course …. Sarah Jessica Parker.

Madonna herself once stated that the shoes from this designer are something “better than sex”.

And for the Sarah Jessica Parker’s character, which made this brand popular and desired by millions of women, the designer said in an interview with “Vogue” – “I adore Ms. Parker,” Blahnik revealed. “The character she played has had such a role in my career – I cannot help but regard both of them as muses! I adore cinema generally and a large chunk of my collections is inspired by it. It could be a character, a scene, or just the spirit of a movie. I watch them all night long.”

Manolo Blahnik Spring Preview 2010 & The World’s Largest Shoe Departmen

These shoes are so gorgeous, it’s like shoe porn!!!!

If you know me, you would understand what a shoe freak I am, so this post was pure delight! I worked in Delman, the fancy ladies shoe salon at Bergdorf Goodman in NY back in the early 80’s where gorgeous shoes were part of design.

If you don’t know me, just ask Sharon and she can share some mutual shoe drool stories with you– starting with the time that I found her the most incredible fuchsia, ankle wrap Charles Jourdan disco heels! On second thought, maybe you shouldn’t ask…

To make all you shoe fanatics jealous, I had the distinct pleasure of attending two major shoe events in the same day- the Manolo Blahnick spring preview and the unveiling of the world’s largest shoe department at Galeries Lafayette, Paris.

The press showing of the Manolo Blahnik spring 2010 shoe collection was held at Maria Luisa, a ladies high fashion boutique that exclusively sells Manolo’s in Paris.

The collection was a knockout with high sexy feminine heels and brimming with all the gorgeous color combinations that Manolo is famous for.
